While we're experimenting with IM, here's another tool we could look at.
Meebo is a web-based IM app, which lets you log in to your various IM accounts from a single webpage. No need to install any software or download anything. You can set up an account with Meebo and use their IM system, or you can log in to Google Talk, Yahoo, MSN, AIM, etc.
With Meebo you can also embed a chat widget in a website so that visitors to the site can chat with you without having to sign up or login to another IM service. I guess we could use this if we set up a training program for library staff which has a support blog for them. If staff have questions about the program thwey could use Meebo to chat to one of us rather than emailing. Quite a few libraries have embedded Meebo widgets on their subject guides so that students can chat to a subject librarian from the guide.

Sounds good Andrew, perhaps we can try this one out at out next meeting as poosibly none of us (except you) will be on meebo, that way we can actually see how it will work for staff.
ReplyDeletei have a meebo account..but what i was not comfortable is giving meebo all my login ids to my various im accounts.
ReplyDeleteSounds very useful for certain occasions in the library. We may chat with each department when we get questions, like department emails.
